Railway assets demand constant, consistent, and accurate inspection of conditions to ensure safe transportations of millions of passengers. However, inspection and maintenance windows for each day are limited to just a few hours after midnight, between operating hours. The challenge is further compounded by the fact that certain assets are situated in hard-to-reach spaces such as high up in confined ventilation shafts, making thorough inspections within the limited timeframe even more difficult.

To address these challenges, Meinhardt provided an innovative solution that improves the inspection efficiency by utilising advanced UAV technology combined with laser scanning, leveraging UAV’s ability to rapidly access confined or elevated locations with minimal personnel required.
